Great Circle Ventures

             VC Internship

We are looking to bring on a first-year MBA intern (~10 hours a week) to start in February 2025, with the potential to continue into the summer and second year. We care deeply about improving diversity and inclusion in the venture capital industry and, as such, candidates from backgrounds that are traditionally underrepresented within the venture ecosystem are encouraged to apply. As prior VC experience is usually required for obtaining a role on an investment team, this fellowship will provide the direct investing experience to springboard underrepresented candidates into the industry.

As this Venture Fellow will help lead investments in food CPG and B2C foodtech, we are particularly looking for those with backgrounds at CPG startups or relevant experience in investing, banking, or consulting. We are looking for a driven, proactive self-starter who can manage upwards and works well in a team.

This fellowship is paid $500 bi-weekly. Preference is for first-year MBA candidates in New York City, but can accommodate remote applicants, as our team is currently geographically distributed. Candidates should expect to take occasional calls on European time zones in addition to US time zones.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Great Circle Ventures team with deal-related work, including but not limited to joining calls with founders, assisting with due diligence, logging new deals in our CRM, and participating in our regular deal flow meetings.
  • Conduct investment thesis research on topics to be determined by the fellow and the Great Circle Ventures team.
  • Manage investor relations with large corporate food group investors, periodically reporting out fund progress
  • Support development of fund strategy and support ongoing fundraising where needed
  • Miscellaneous tasks related to working at a relatively-new VC firm, which may include assisting with organizing events, supporting portfolio companies, and supporting internal operational needs.

Requirements

  • An interest in a career in venture capital. You may be a current or recent student or looking to make a career pivot into venture capital.
  • Relevant background in investing, investment banking, management consulting, or at CPG startups.
  • Self-motivated and driven; proven to work independently, prioritize work, and achieve results with a high degree of accountability.
  • A deep passion for food, consumers, human health, and the planet. While having an extensive background in CPG or climate tech is not required for this role, you likely will not enjoy it very much if you do not care about solving the climate crisis and do not understand the contribution of our food system.
  • Financial modeling skills, including intermediate to advanced Excel proficiency.
  • Highly organized, shown to meet tight deadlines along with consistent accuracy and methodic attention to detail.
  • Experience in/comfort with a role with a degree of ambiguity, requiring proactive analysis, creativity and self-directed action.
  • Fluency in English required. Fluency in other languages is a plus but not necessary.
  • Nice to have: prior operating expertise in a related industry, or technical expertise.
